I just recently got my SKY – – seemed to be working ok – However today we got 0,25 of rain on my various gauges – the SKY only got 0.08 – whats up — whats wrong

Very high rainfall amounts. How to calibrate Sky?
Rain Readings High
Rainfall seriously over reported
Rainfall seriously over reported
Wind speed seems to be reading low (solved in firmware v103)
Sky Station Precipitation Problems
It’s raining but not registering
Haptic Sensor NOT Registering Heavy Rainfall
First Rain Event
Graupel registering as heavy rain
Rainfall Data under reporting
Not registering rain

Rain guage not working correctly. Only said 0.08. Other guages ssid 0.25 to 0.30

#3

is this mm or inches?

#4

@weather-display he means inches as I see.

@caredlands this is to hard to know if it accurate or not, because rainfall is really variable even between small distance.

I think we should get trusted rain gauge brand to be sure if the sky is accurate or not .
hope the weatherflow team can help you.

#5

My rain guage isnt working the right way

#6

I think weatherflow can adjust the sensitivity for you
(and they did mention that it has a learning period too)

#7

I hope they can. My other guages got 0.25 to 0.30, Sky only got 0. 08

#8

I see the latest firmware release mentions increasing the rain sensitivity

#9

Is it possible for you to share with us the brands of the other gauges please, just for reference.

And the newer firmare @weather-display mentions isn’t yet public. It is in heavy testing with us and if all goes well in your hub next week.

Hi @caredlands. Congratulations on being one of our first non-field-test owners of a SKY!! And thanks for joining the discussion here. Now, to your question…

According to your data, your SKY is working perfectly, but the calibration may be off. While the factory-set calibration of the sensors inside AIR & SKY is normally quite good, we been developing some data science techniques / technology to tune sensor calibration once in-situ. Sometimes sensor calibration can get knocked out of whack during shipping and/or installation, or wander over time. This is especially common with the rain sensor. Here’s the good news…we have already begun a process of in-situ quality control and self-adjustment. As @weather-display said, it’s actually a process of self-learning.

The initial self-learning process will examine your sensor data and make adjustments as needed to your calibration. Our system needs to capture a few more rain events before your calibration is really dialed in. So, thanks for your patience! (noted: the irony of telling Mr. Eager to be patient!)

Meanwhile, if you can answer a couple questions, that will likely improve this process:

  1. In your estimation, is it located in a place that has a clear view of the sky and is receiving rain unobstructed?
  2. What are the “other gauges” you’re comparing your SKY readings to? Do you trust them?
  3. Can you share any pictures of your installation?

Thanks for your feedback!

David (@dsj),

Speaking of rain, my location had a good 12 hours of rain that later turned up snow then back to rain.

I sent you some rain stats. Did u do an adjustment yet, because i got rain reading when it has been sunny hot and dry. Whst can cause false readings. - vibration, other issues

#15

False rain readings are due to vibration. Check the Sky mounting to ensure there is no excess vibration do to mounting.

#16

I have my SKY on my air conditioer on thw roof. on top of it. It doesnt report false readings all thd time

#17

That’s not a good idea. When the compressor turns on it will cause vibration and false rain.

#18

The thing is – it doest happen all fhe rume. So what explains the other times when norhing is on and u still get fslsr reafings

#19

Any kind of vibration. Wind, birds, moter turning on, etc.

Where do u have yours onstalled
