For wind reading a free view to 360° without high trees helps o he significant readings.
Do you know the guidelines for official reference weatherstations ? About the different sensed values. That’s professional requirement and you have to find a best practice position as tempest is a all-in-one sensing head.
Ok… yes, this is a silly question… but when setting up the Tempest - there is a blue arrow on the side - and it needs to point “North” - but does that mean if I am facing North - I can see the arrow or is the arrow on the other side and I can not see the arrow? Thanks all!
Thanks… apologies for my confusion. I think if the arrow was on a horizontal surface, I’d have less of a problem answering that question. Yes… received mine yesterday too and it is remarkable. More to follow.
Still waiting for mine to arrive this week sometime but during the meantime I’m still debating on where to place it. I currently live in a townhome so the backyard isn’t very big. Debating if should mount on the side fence which is away from the most of the trees and is partly open. It will be mounted about 6-7 feet from ground attached to the fence.
Other option I’m thinking of is mounting it on my shed roof which will be be about 8-9 feet from the ground. (this spot is pretty much open all around) I read its not good to place it on top of your roof due to heat from roof? Opinions please.
You can also use the compass app on your iPhone. Just remember to account for magnetic deviation/declination (for most of the lower 48 it’s only a couple degrees, for me in Alaska it was 16-degrees!).
I installed my Tempest this morning – not the greatest location. Trees in most places, so the best I could do was utilize the fence at the end of my driveway. Unfortunately our house and the neighbor’s are relatively close, so I expect to see some inaccuracy in wind. Wunderground station link is https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KARSHERW31.
This is a 5ft conduit with conduit clamps secured to a 4x4 in concrete. I’m going to try to rectify to some extent by adding an additional section.
This is the most open spot on the property as far as the wind is concerned since our yard is small and I didn’t want to attach to the house. This ends up being about 15 feet off the ground atop the play house.
Tempest arrived yesterday, and it was installed today! It was windy enough that the Kitesurfers were out front ripping it up this morning so had to wait till the wind died this evening to put it up.
The roof line is over 30 feet so I went up another 14 to get clean air. This should give a good reading of the wind at WInthrop Beach, Winthrop, MA.
Looks nice. You may get rain notifications when the kids are playing on swings and possibly the play house. Remember the rain sensor senses the vibrations of the rain drops.
