Photos of Tempest and Installation

nice. the old lean over the edge and screw in upside down. its a good 22ft just to get to the top gutter then up higher to get to the peak. I have 25-30ft to the ground when i fall off. LOL but it might be the only way i can get up there like you suggested.

that’s kinda what I predicted…the USPS employee would deliver the mail then close up the door (rather hard as it could be heard). Also…looks like the employee might’ve stared at it for just a moment. . .wondering what it was. . .just prior to depositing the mail.

What pole/mount would y’all recommend installing a Tempest station at the beach?

Best place I could find other than the roof (which I didn’t want to deal with.) 5 ft 4x4, another 5 ft steel pipe attached to that. Pretty good, but not perfect exposure. Installed two days and having fun with it.

Just an observation. . . the pipe that Tempest is attached to. . .you could lower it so that the bottom of that pipe rests on the roof for better stability (from the bottom). If you don’t get or expect lots of high winds. . .then it’d probably be okay as is. For tall objects, the idea is to have as much stability as possible. . . which prevents oscillations / vibrations from being registered as “bogus” rain on the haptic rain sensor.

The dish mount is lagged into the rafters, short of 100+ winds, it’s not going anywhere with the unbolts.

That would be a good way to introduce a leak in the roof and possibly a point of induced vibration if the end moved at all, unless you are also saying to put a pipe end mount on the roof too.

yeah. . .after-thought would be to put an end-mount “lagged” into his roof. But since he said it was very secure and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon…it’ll be just fine!

Interim install (near my old accurite sensor). Need to reinforce the mounting and lift it a bit higher but im excited to have it.

Edit - Does anyone know how to rotate the image inline?

I rotate them before I upload them. I have found over the years that not all rotating done on a computer is actually stored in the file, which may be what you are running into. In Windows you can use the Paint program, I don’t remember what the program on the Mac is. You can rotate the image then edit your post with the little pencil icon and re-upload the new picture.

Strangely i uploaded straight from my phone - as what appeared properly oriented :man_shrugging:t3: - may try editing from my computer later.

Got my Tempest the other day and got it set up now. The other equipment is a BloomSky Storm.

What is the BloomSky Storm? I haven’t heard of it before.

It is part of a weather station from BloomSky. There is the Storm that has wind and rain. There is a Sky2 unit that has temperature, barometer, humidity and a fisheye camera that takes pictures every couple minutes and posts them.
Nice unit. Love the camera. I don’t think the weather observations are as accurate as the Tempest.

I would be more concerned about a Beer Bottle or a ball bat

Installed! I’m using a 10ft galvanized steel mast attached to the fence using vent pipe brackets. I was originally going for the roof but after I got up there it became clear the vent pipes weren’t long enough to support 10ft.

I’m pretty impressed with my neighbors, I’m going on 7 days with no theft, abuse or comments of any kind. It must look decorative enough they just ignore it. Also going on 7 days with no false rain reporting despite the mailman slamming my mailbox shut every day. Pretty impressive little gadget.
