Lots of broadcast (255.255.255.255) traffic

Is the hub supposed to be sending out lots of broadcast traffic (dst mac ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff; dst ip 255.255.255.255; dst port 50222; UDP)?

Yes, that is the default for publishing your data on your local network… so you can collect YOUR data and do what you want to with it.
