Pre-production is under way – time to take a breath and give you an update!
Short Story: We expect to start the Field Test in mid-October and ship production units in December or January. As you know, we’ve been busy the past few months working on details of our first production run. From an engineering standpoint, we’re tackling a pretty big challenge – building top-quality home stations with a highly sensitive sonic anemometer, proprietary haptic rain sensor, modern data communications, and a clean & simple app – all for under US$200.
Quality over speed: We’d love to deliver your weather station ahead of schedule, but not at the expense of quality. Instead of rushing to market with a product that is not 100% awesome, we have opted to barter time for quality. Through a rigorous process of designing, testing, and iterating we’re getting close but it’s still going to take a couple months to nail all the details.
Your feedback: During the course of our IndieGogo campaign, we’ve received lots of insightful & actionable feedback from backers like you. Thanks! We take all comments and suggestions seriously and have gone back to the drawing board numerous times to incorporate the best ideas into our products. Yes, this adds to our timeline, but we feel the positive benefits to the end product will pay significant dividends in your satisfaction with our products. We’re looking forward to even more great feedback from those of you who signed up to be Field Testers.
Revised timeline: Our first batch of pre-production AIR devices is rolling off our factory lines in Shenzhen. Every one of these devices will be rigorously tested before going out to the approximately 100 field testers in North America in mid-October. The SKY devices are taking longer to perfect at scale, but we hope to have pre-production units for field testing in about 6 weeks. Our iOS and Android apps and our web services are nearly complete and ready for external testing. Pending results from the field testing, we are hoping to ramp up production and fulfill backer orders in December or January. We’ll keep you updated.
